The Most Magnificent Thing – Ashley Spires

最华丽的事情 – Ashley Spires

Year 1 team leader Mr. Poole recommends this book for the youngest primary school students. In addition to sharing the story of a girl and her best friend who set out to create the most magnificent thing, young learners are taught a variety of lessons, from how to persevere in the face of adversity, to how to deal with frustration, to the idea of delayed gratification, and much more.

一年级组长Poole先生为小龄段的小学生推荐了这本书。阅读后,孩子们除了知道一个女孩和她好朋友创造的最华丽的事情之外,小读者会学习到如何在逆境中坚持,如何面对沮丧以及迟到的感谢,等等。

Today I Will Fly – Mo Willems

今天我要飞 – Mo Willems

A delightful tale about a pig who wants to learn to fly, Year 2 team leader Ms. Banerjee recommends this book as both a comical and educational read for young learners thanks to its comical plot and plenty of new vocabulary, especially sound and sight words.

一个关于一只猪想要学习飞翔的有趣故事。二年级组长Banerjee老师推荐这本书,因为这本书既幽默,又有教育意义(内含众多的新词汇,特别是常用词)。

Looking for even more ways to use this book to enhance your children’s learning? Ms. Banerjee has all kinds of suggestions, such as:

想通过更多其他的方式阅读这本书来提高孩子的学习?Banerjee老师有如下建议:

- Write a book about Piggie and Elephant on a new adventure (trying something new).

- 尝试写一本关于猪和大象去探险的书

- Reenact the story, video tape your presentation, and show it off to friends and family.

- 角色扮演,录制你个人的表演,并向同伴和家人分享

- Have conversations with your child about limitations they may have, e.g. not being able to go in the deep end of the pool. It’s a great opportunity to review the idiom: “When pigs fly!”

- 和孩子讨论他们所遇到的限制,例如不能去到游泳池的底部。这也是一个复习歇后语“当猪能飞”的好机会。

- Make a list of things that are so crazy they’ll never happen.  Discuss possible consequences if child were to exert themselves beyond their limitation.

- 列出一些他们永远都不会发生的事情。如果孩子能发挥想象,可以讨论可能的后果。
